Klitschko came up with solution of boxing presence at the Olympics in Tokyo

Former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko figured out how to solve the issue of the presence of boxing in the program of the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Klitschko in his appeal asked the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to consider the World Boxing Association (WBA) as an organization that will provide Olympic licenses.

“I used to know if I qualify for the Olympics, it will be an event that will change my life, my family, my country, sports, and perhaps the entire globe.

“In 1996, I went to Atlanta and won the Olympic gold - a medal that was later auctioned at a charity event for $1 million. It is a great honor for me that the same medal is in the museum today and has been motivating for two decades, I hope, young visitors to become champions in sports and, more importantly, in life.

“Currently, the worst in boxing has already happened. Boxing is in danger of being suspended due to the current dysfunction resulting in the loss of Olympic licensing.

“We need joint efforts to change the dreams of athletes who want to participate in the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo. Let's not downplay the excitement of fans who continue to watch boxing and appreciate this classic tactical sport. I pray that the national federations continue to sign contracts with young boxers.

“I also ask the International Olympic Committee to consider the WBA as an organization that will centralize the sport, while continuing to improve the protection of the interests of its athletes and fans, and to grant WBA Olympic licenses for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
