According to Tom Leffler, promoter of world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, if his team could not agree on a rematch with Saul Alvarez, they already had a contract for a fight against another middleweight title holder Billy Joe Saunders on August 25 in Los Angeles.
"Gennady did not hesitate for a moment to meet Saunders, because he considers him a difficult rival. He's an undefeated champion," Leffler said.
It is now evident that the hamstring injury, due to which Saunders allegedly refused to fight Martin Murray on June 23, was a fake. Now Saunders has no fight with Murray in June and no battle with Golovkin in August.
