Egis Klimas the manager of the WBO cruiserweight champion Alexander Usyk (13-0, 11 KO) told where the Ukrainian is likely to face the WBC title-holder Mairis Briedis (24-0, 18 KOs). Egis also said that he was not impressed by the performance of the Latvian in the fight against Mike Perez (22-3, 14 KOs).
“We're waiting on the date. We've been told it's going to be in January versus WBC champion Mairis Briedis and it's probably going to take place in Latvia, but it's not officially been announced and I haven't been told exactly the place and date of the fight. We're just told it's going to be 100% in January, but we're still waiting for an official announcement,” Klimas said.
" Briedis is a good fighter and a hard hitter. As far as the talent and the skills though, I think Usyk has much more. Usyk had a great performance with Marco Huck and I think Briedis wasn't too impressive with his last performance against Mike Perez, it was sloppy and messy and I wasn't impressed. But overall, the tournament has been great and I think it's very, very good for boxing. When you have different promoters, networks, managers, advisors and consultants and it becomes difficult to unify titles. What they did, was put all of the champions in the tournament, pay them well and leave them no choice but to fight each other," added Egis Klimas.
