WBO super featherweight champion Vasily Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) scored a stoppage victory over Miguel Marriaga (25-3, 21 KOs) after the Colombian corner refused to continue the fight after the seventh round. Thus, Lomachenko for the third time defended his title and earned sixth consecutive TKO victory.
After the first slow round in the second Lomachenko went forward and began to fight at a short and medium range distance, which caused him to miss several optional blows, from one of which a small hematoma appeared under his right eye.
Despite the local success of Marriaga, Lomachenko dominated and in the third round he was able to send him to the floor with left straight. After the knockdown, Vasily did not go on finishing, but went into the corner and invited Murriaga to close combat.
In the fourth round, after a clash of heads Lomachenko suffered a cut to his left eye which became to bleed noticeably. The blow of Marriaga's head looked intentional, but the referee Jack Riess did not react to it. During the break, the corner of Lomachenko successfully coped with the cut and stopped bleeding.
Lomachenko's advantage in speed and technique became more and more obvious, and at the end of the seventh round, Marriaga went down again after the left hook. According to CompuBox statistics, in the seventh round Lomachenko landed 44 punches, while Marriaga threw 27 only.
Immediately after that, at the break, the corner of Marriaga said "no mass", and refused to continue.
After the match, Lomachenko thanked his fans and said that he needed to work on the defense, taking into account the hematoma and the cut. He also said that he did not care whom to fight next.
