Golovkin: "I don't know what Mayweather v McGregor is"

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are closing in on a massive Pay-Per-View clash for the second half of 2017 and middleweight king Gennady Golovkin was recently asked his opinion on the match-up. Golovkin, who called Mayweather out on many occasions before the former pound for pound king retired in September 2015, told the following in a brief interview.

"For me this is a show, a big program show, a commercial show. I don't know what it is."

The Kazakh puncher was then asked if he though Mayweather v McGregor could be embarrasing for the sport, to which he replied: "Absolutely, right now it's a different situation for everybody."

On his own ambitions to share a ring with Mayweather and recent comments made by the American on his Undefeated European Tour, 'GGG' stated: "I'm not thinking (about a fight with him). This is trash talking, it's not serious."

Many believe a Mayweather v Golovkin clash at a catchweight could be the biggest boxing match-up since the Pacquiao fight in May 2015, although the bout is obviously looked upon as too big a risk for the reward.

Facing McGregor makes much more sense for Mayweather at this stage of his career and would bring together two PPV super-powers in a money-spinning affair. The Pay-Per-View figures for Golovkin are yet to fully ignite despite a devastating run at 160 pounds and Mayweather has shown little interest in moving back up to 154 pounds.
