Jacobs: “I look forward to showing how great I can be”

Many believe middleweight force Danny Jacobs faces an uphill task on March 18 when the American tackles Gennady Golovkin in a massive middleweight unification clash. The 30 year-old cancer survivor is a huge underdog to end Golovkin’s punishing 36-0 run at the top, although Jacobs himself is relishing the test and aims to show the world he means business at the world famous Madison Square Garden.

“I’m privileged to face the best. Nine times out of ten, guys don’t take on the toughest challenges, they milk the game in a sense as much as they can,” said Jacobs. “I credit Gennady for taking this fight, I have the utmost respect for him and his team but come March 18, the questions that have been asked about me will be answered, who I truly am, what I bring to the table and just how great I can be.”

“I haven’t come this far to give up, I’m scared of no man, I fear nothing, my back has been against the wall so many times and I’ve accepted that this is no different. It’s a tough challenge but one I look forward to,” he added.

Jacobs puts his status as a world champion on the line against Golovkin, who currently holds four of the five recognised belts, and will need to avoid a second career loss in order to stay relevant in the division. Should ‘The Miracle Man’ suffer another devastating knockout in the ilk of his shock loss to Dmitry Pirog seven years ago, Jacobs could find he has nowhere left to go at 160 pounds.
