Sampson Lewkowitz, promoter David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs), assures fans that his fighter, after a one-time jump to light heavyweight, will be ready to return to the limit of 76.2 kilograms for a fight with Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).

The American puncher has been demanding a fight with the Mexican star for many months, but Alvarez is in no hurry to give him a money chance and is choosing other options. As a result, Benavidez decided to fight for the interim WBC light heavyweight belt with Alexander Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs).

“My fighter will be ready to return to super middleweight to fight Canelo in September,” Lewkowitz assured.

The Benavidez-Gvozdyk fight is scheduled for late June or early July, although a more realistic date for this meeting is June. Canelo is set to return on May 4, it is not yet known with whom, but his next fight this year is tentatively and traditionally scheduled for September.
