"I won't repeat this mistake." Whittaker named the reason for his defeat in the fight with Du Plessis

Last July, the former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker unexpectedly suffered an early defeat from Dricus Du Plessis and dropped out of the title race. The Australian is sure that the reason for that failure was the underestimation of his opponent.

“Having watched Du Plessis from the sidelines during the fight with Strickland, I realized that I had not prepared for it adequately. I didn't give him the respect he deserved. I knew that he was a tough opponent, but I didn’t realize his really high class. He is a strong and hungry fighter. This all needs to be respected. I won’t repeat this mistake again,” MMA Junkie quotes Whittaker.

Let us remind you that last weekend at the UFC 297 tournament, Du Plessis won a split decision against Sean Strickland and became the new champion in the 185-pound division.
