Whittaker: “I don’t know why Du Plessis’ victory is called controversial”

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker commented on the conversations that Dricus Du Plessis was undeservedly recognized as the winner of the battle with Sean Strickland.

Last weekend at UFC 297, Du Plessis won a split decision against Strickland to win the 185-pound title.

“I don’t know why this victory is called controversial. I saw what Dana and others said, but in my opinion Du Plessis won the fight. I told everyone that Drikus is a big guy with a clumsy style, but one of his characteristics is that he is ready to fight to the last. He would rather leave the cage on a stretcher than give up, and that's exactly what he showed in his fight with Strickland. Congratulations to the new champion, because of the two, he wanted this victory more,” MMA Mania quotes Whittaker as saying.
