Arnold Allen vs. Yair Rodriguez Looms After UFC Fight Night 276: Featherweight Stakes Are Suddenly Back in Play

Fresh off his win over Costa in the UFC Fight Night 276 main event, Arnold Allen said he wants to finally share the Octagon with Mexico’s Yair Rodriguez.

Fresh off a statement win at UFC Fight Night 276 in Las Vegas, Arnold Allen made it clear who he wants next: former interim title challenger Yair Rodriguez. The callout came immediately after Allen’s victory over Costa, with the British featherweight pointing to a matchup that has been discussed before but never finalized.

That matters in a 145-pound division that badly needs clarity behind the title picture. Rodriguez remains one of the biggest names in the weight class because of his style, résumé and finishing ability, but Allen’s point is the same one many fans have made: Rodriguez has already had his shot at the belt, and another contender-level fight makes more sense than an automatic fast track back into contention.

Allen said he does not understand why Rodriguez is still ranked so highly and noted that the UFC had previously tried to match them up. This time, the matchup feels more relevant. If Allen beats Rodriguez, he would add a recognizable former title challenger to his recent work and strengthen his case for another run toward the top of the division. If Rodriguez wins, he reminds everyone that he is still the most dangerous spoiler in the featherweight mix and a real threat to anyone not named the champion.

From an American MMA media perspective, this is the kind of fight that sells itself: two featherweights with real finishing upside, contrasting styles, and something to prove. Allen needs to show he can turn momentum into a genuine title push after falling short against elite competition before. Rodriguez, meanwhile, needs to prove he is more than a highlight-reel threat and still belongs near the front of the line.

“I don’t really understand how Yair is still ranked that high. He’s already had his title shot, so I don’t know why he’s still there. They tried to put me and Yair together before, but for some reason the fight never happened. Honestly, I don’t care. I’m ready to fight anybody,” Allen said after UFC Fight Night 276 in Las Vegas.

If the UFC finally books Allen vs. Rodriguez, it won’t just settle old scheduling business — it could help define the next wave of contenders at featherweight.
