Conor McGregor’s long-awaited UFC comeback appears to be gaining momentum, with longtime teammate and friend Dillon Danis offering an upbeat review of the former two-division champion’s current condition ahead of his return to the Octagon. Danis recently said McGregor looks like his old self again — and even better in some ways — as the Irishman continues working through camp.

McGregor has not fought since suffering a broken leg in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier in July 2021, so any positive update on his form immediately draws attention across the MMA world. His return remains one of the biggest unresolved storylines in the UFC, especially given his star power and the questions surrounding how much of his old explosiveness he can still bring back after such a long layoff.

According to Danis, McGregor has been locked in throughout training and has taken his preparation seriously. He said the two stay in close contact, speaking often and messaging nearly every day, and added that he has seen firsthand how focused McGregor has been in camp.

Danis also pointed to McGregor’s commitment outside the gym, saying the former champion even skipped a couple of BKFC events to remain in camp and make sure he was doing everything necessary in training. In Danis’ view, this version of McGregor is especially driven and disciplined, while still carrying the same personality that made him a global superstar.

That is the key question hanging over McGregor’s comeback: not whether he can still generate hype, but whether he can still compete at the elite level in one of the UFC’s deepest divisions. If he returns close to peak form, he instantly changes the title picture and the promotion’s pay-per-view landscape. For now, the next step is simple — getting him back into the cage and seeing whether the version Danis described shows up on fight night.
