UFC CEO Dana White weighed in on a hypothetical fight between Jon Jones and boxing legend Muhammad Ali.
Dana White believes Jon Jones would overwhelm Muhammad Ali in a fantasy crossover matchup, arguing that the UFC heavyweight champion’s all-around skill set would be too much for the boxing icon to handle.
“Jon Jones would get close to him, grab hold of him, and just tear him apart, yeah,” White said, according to Bloody Elbow.
The comment reflects a familiar MMA-versus-boxing debate, but White’s point is straightforward: under mixed martial arts rules, Jones’ wrestling, clinch work, and grappling would completely change the equation against even one of boxing’s greatest champions.
Jones remains one of the most accomplished fighters in UFC history and is widely regarded by many fans and media members in the United States as one of the sport’s greatest talents ever. His ability to control distance, mix in takedowns, and dominate in transitional exchanges has long separated him from more one-dimensional opponents.
Ali, of course, remains a towering figure in combat sports history, but White’s argument centers on the massive difference between boxing and MMA. It’s the kind of comparison that always sparks reaction because it pits technical greatness in one sport against complete versatility in another.
Earlier, Joe Rogan said that “Bones” still does not want to walk away from professional fighting. That keeps attention fixed on Jones’ future, especially as questions continue to swirl about how much longer he plans to compete and which challenge could come next inside the UFC cage.
For now, White’s take will likely keep fueling the endless barbershop debate over how legends from different eras and sports would match up when the rules change.
