British mixed martial arts fighter Lerone Murphy, ranked fourth in the UFC featherweight division, gave a sober and fairly cautious assessment of the prospects for his upcoming fight with Russian Movsar Evloev.
In a recent interview on Ariel Helwani's podcast, Lerone stated directly: winning this fight does not guarantee an automatic title shot, despite many in the MMA community already calling this fight an unofficial eliminator.
"It was obvious that the UFC would eventually put us together. But is this a definite contender fight? Right now any loud words are just hot air. The division changes very quickly, and the UFC is, above all, show business and an entertainment company. The most important thing is to go out and put on a really cool fight. Nothing is guaranteed, that's what I want to convey. Although, of course, I really hope for it," said Murphy.
The Evloev vs. Murphy fight has been officially announced as the main event of the UFC Fight Night 270 tournament, which will take place on March 21 in London.
