The Tapology database updated the professional record of one of the brightest UFC welterweight prospects — Ecuadorian Michael Morales. Previously considered undefeated with a result of 19-0, the fighter is now listed as 20-1 after adding two early fights from 2017. These bouts took place within the Ecuadorian league Ultima Pelea — a reality show with a tournament format reminiscent of the American The Ultimate Fighter.
According to the statement by Tapology, Morales participated in the second season of the show, where he first won, and then lost in the quarterfinals to Ricardo Centeno by a triangle choke hold in just 36 seconds. At the time of the defeat, the opponent had a record of 1-5 (now approximately 11-10). Experts on the site considered these bouts professional, as the rules and structure met their criteria despite the television format and some differences (e.g. two rounds of five minutes each and prohibition on elbows).
It is noteworthy that many sources, including Sherdog and the official UFC website, continue to consider Morales' record perfect at 19-0, classifying the fights at Ultima Pelea as exhibition. The fighter himself, who ranks fourth in the division after striking victories over top contenders, has not yet publicly commented on the situation.
Morales' last fight took place in November last year at UFC 322 against Sean Brady: the Ecuadorian secured a convincing victory by technical knockout in the first round, earning a "Performance of the Night" bonus and solidifying his position among the top welterweights.
