Former UFC champion in two weight categories Conor McGregor has once again fueled interest in one of the most high-profile rivalries in combat sports history by challenging Floyd Mayweather to a rematch - but this time under mixed martial arts rules.In a post on his page on X, the 37-year-old Irishman expressed his desire to fight at a historic tournament at the White House this summer.
"Mayweather, when you are ready for the promised fight under MMA rules, I'll be here. Heard there's a decent tournament at the White House this summer. I'll defeat Floyd under MMA rules easily in 10 seconds," wrote McGregor.
This challenge refers to their epic boxing match in 2017, where the 48-year-old Mayweather won by technical knockout in the 10th round. McGregor reminds of the supposed promise made by the American to hold a rematch in the octagon and links it to the upcoming UFC card on the White House lawn in June 2026 - an event dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the USA.
McGregor's last MMA fight took place more than four and a half years ago: in July 2021 at UFC 264 he lost to Dustin Poirier by technical knockout in the first round due to a broken leg.
