Frank Warren, promoter of former WBO interim heavyweight champion Joe Joyce, discussed his ward's loss in his fight against Filip Hrgovic.
"I didn't want to say this publicly, but it's going to be very difficult for him to get back into the ranks. He's been a terrific and courageous warrior over the years, a solid amateur and an Olympic silver medalist. I think he'll make a decision about what he wants to do next. One thing about boxing is you get to a certain age and these things can catch up with you.
I was really surprised. When Joyce got caught a couple times, I thought he was going to lose early, but Joe withstood the punches. The audience loves him, don't they? He's a nice guy. The judges didn't give him the win, but I'm not going to beat a man lying down," Warren told The Ring.
As a reminder, Hrgovic defeated Joyce by unanimous judges' decision in the main event of Boxing Night in Manchester on April 5.
