UFC American welterweight Anthony Smith expressed his belief that at the moment the best fighter of the promotion is not the lightweight division champion Islam Makhachev, but the heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones.
"I think the best is still Jon Jones. He's done a tremendous amount of work over a long period of time. Yes, he doesn't get into the octagon very often. That affects his status while speculating about the best fighter on the planet.
But Jones has fought three generations of fighters and keeps winning. It's not easy. And another thing - Islam Makhachev has a real defeat. Jones doesn't have that. I think if you put all the greats in one room, it's Jon Jones who comes out alive," Smith said in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
