Javier Mendes, coach of UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, has spoken out about his charge's possible fight against either Dricus Du Plessis or Israel Adesanya.
"Islam said middleweight would be something of an interesting challenge but he would have to build muscle, so it's not just me, it's Islam himself thinking the same thing, that his move to middleweight is a possibility. It's not really a priority that we're really considering, but it's been discussed. If he could accomplish something like that, get in the ring against du Plessis or Adesanya for example, if it ever comes to fruition and he succeeds, it would put him in the top three in the weight class of all time," MMA News quoted Mendes as saying.
