Hooker admitted he should have lost to Puryear with a choke hold

New Zealand UFC lightweight Dan Hooker made a surprising admission about his fight against former interim champion Dustin Puryear, which took place in June 2020 and ended with the latter winning on points.

It turns out Hooker passed out during a "guillotine" choke hold by Puryear in the third round.

"I remember a funny moment from the fight with Puryear in 2020. He threw a guillotine around my neck. And I may have been the first person he choked with a guillotine in his career. He just didn't realize I'd passed out. That's why I was awake in time.

It was the third round. I made a pass to my feet and he countered with a choke. Apparently, he got tired of pushing because I woke up. I even thought, "Oh, the fight's still on, that's cool." So he had an early guillotine victory, but nobody noticed it," Fox Sports quoted Hooker as saying.
