Daniel Cormier, former UFC champion in two weight categories, commented on the victory of Islam Makhachev in the fight with Dustin Porier. Cormier noted that Islam should not be compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
"He finished the fight early, but even if the fight had gone the full distance, Islam would still have won 4-1. It was a truly dominant performance. It's just that Islam has been putting on perfect performances for so long now that people were straight up glaring at the moments when Puryear had something going for him. Islam showed that he can take a stand-up fight against an extremely dangerous puncher, and once again got an early win. I think Makhachev is falling victim to other people's expectations. Islam is not Khabib. Khabib showed such unqualified dominance that we never once saw him in a difficult position. And that's exactly what people expect from Islam. But understand, he is not Khabib."
