Cormier: "If Khabib had kept fighting, he would have a 40-0-0 record right now"

American mixed martial arts titlist Daniel Cormier compared former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and current belt holder Islam Makhachev.

"I think Islam is more articulate in the standup. But I don't think there was another fighter as resilient as Khabib. People don't see that. We pay attention to the class wrestling and the stamina, but we ignore his character. He never once showed that he was hurt or uncomfortable. It was like he didn't notice the low kicks from Gatgey. Conor was hitting him, and so was Al Iaquinta. But Khabib was too tough.

I don't know who was better. If Khabib had kept fighting, he would have a 40-0 record right now. I don't see anyone who could beat him," said Cormier

Recall that last weekend Makhachev held the third defense of the title, defeating Dustin Puryear with a choke hold in the fifth round. The fight took place at the UFC 302 tournament in Newark, USA.
