Roy Jones Jr. Says He’d Be Open to Thierry Henry Exhibition Bout for the Right Price

An unusual crossover matchup could be on the table if the money makes sense. Former world champion Roy Jones Jr. said he would be willing to take part in an exhibition fight against ex-Arsenal and France forward Thierry Henry, according to comments cited by Sport Bible.

Jones made clear that any return would depend on a serious financial offer. He said that given his background and status in the sport, he would have no problem saying yes if the payday were strong enough. In that scenario, he suggested the opportunity itself would be enough motivation to get back into shape.

At the same time, Jones also stressed that he has no interest in going through a full training camp without a meaningful reason. After spending so many years in the gym, he indicated he is no longer looking to prepare for these kinds of events unless the terms are right and the compensation justifies the effort.

That position reflects the current exhibition landscape, where recognizable names can still draw attention, but only a small number of events generate real interest. In the U.S., fans have become increasingly selective about celebrity and crossover bouts, especially when former elite fighters are involved. Jones appears to see that reality clearly and is not eager to attach himself to a novelty event unless it carries real financial weight.

Henry, one of the most famous soccer players of his generation, would bring global name recognition even without a combat-sports background. That celebrity angle is likely what makes the idea commercially viable in the first place. Jones, now long removed from his championship peak, still remains one of boxing’s most recognizable figures, which gives a potential exhibition between the two obvious curiosity value.

For now, this is more possibility than plan. But if a promoter comes forward with a serious offer, Jones has made it clear he would at least listen — and that may be enough to keep this strange but marketable matchup alive.
