Frank Warren, promoter of the rising star of the heavyweight division Moses Itauma, is full of confidence: his protégé can already contend for a full title this year if he successfully overcomes the next serious challenge.
"Moses is ranked first in the rankings of two leading organizations, and he directly told me: ‘I want to fight for the world championship title as soon as possible’,” Warren shared in a conversation with Sky Sports journalists. According to him, the young fighter's ambitions completely coincide with the team's plans — to reach the elite level without unnecessary delays.
The promoter emphasizes that everything will depend on the performance in the upcoming fight. "It is very important to see how Itauma handles Jermaine Franklin and in what form he presents himself. Last year Moses had only two fights, so now he needs to completely shake off this rust and show a real level," Warren noted.
Warren does not hide his optimism regarding the near-term prospects. "I think that if Moses passes this test and does it as convincingly as we all expect, then already this year he will be ready for a title fight. We will definitely gather with him and the entire team, sit down, discuss everything, and make the right decision. I believe: victory over Franklin will open the doors to the championship belt," said the promoter.
Recall that the confrontation between Itauma and Franklin is scheduled for March 28 in Manchester.
