Stevenson demonstrated a master class, controlling the distance with his jab and frequently making Lopez miss with left-hand punches. Lopez found it difficult to close the distance, yet he tried to use body punches to succeed.
In the fourth round, a left-right combination to the body and head nearly caused Lopez's glove to touch the canvas. In the sixth round, Lopez experienced a knockdown after a combination from Stevenson, but referee Harvey Dock did not count it. Lopez performed well in the eighth round, landing a good right punch.
By the eleventh round, the effects of Stevenson's jab and hook were visibly evident on Lopez's face. Lopez had bleeding, his head often snapped back, and he could no longer find answers to all of Stevenson's punches.
After the fight, Stevenson called out Conor Benn, who was present in the arena, and then they immediately engaged in a staredown and a verbal exchange.
