The arrest took place without resistance: the boxer was taken right at the exit of a store as part of a joint operation by the Miami Gardens police and the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force, who were conducting surveillance in three counties.

The 31-year-old Davis is charged with three counts: assault, unlawful restraint, and attempted kidnapping. An arrest warrant was issued back on January 15. The incident underlying the charges occurred on October 27 last year at Tootsie's Cabaret club in Miami Gardens.

According to the victim, a former girlfriend who worked there as a VIP waitress, Davis burst into the establishment, grabbed her by the hair and throat, and forcibly dragged her down the stairs to the parking lot, holding her against her will. The woman managed to escape and reach her colleagues. In addition to the criminal case, she filed a civil lawsuit, adding charges of aggravated assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

This arrest is the second high-profile legal episode for Davis in the past year and a half and has directly impacted his career: in November last year, a high-profile crossover fight with Jake Paul, which was to take place in Miami, was canceled. The last time "Tank" appeared in the ring was on March 1, 2025 — his fight with Lamont Roach ended in a controversial draw.
