Dalton Smith (19-0, 14 KO) defeated Subriel Matias (23-3, 22 KO) by technical knockout in the fifth round of the main event in Brooklyn, New York, stripping the Puerto Rican of the WBC super lightweight title.
The fight started at a high pace. The Briton tried to keep his opponent at a distance, but the aggressive Matias forced Smith into frequent exchanges and openings.
The Englishman held Smith's punches well and counterattacked effectively. At the end of the fifth round, Smith delivered a series of powerful punches, culminating in a right hook. Matias fell to the canvas, and although no count was begun, the referee decided to stop the fight. Thus, Matias suffered his first early defeat in his career, and the 28-year-old Smith won his first world title.
