The undefeated Japanese Seiya Tsutsumi (13-0-3, 8 KOs) had some difficulty retaining his WBA bantamweight belt, winning by split decision (115-113, 117-111, and 112-116) over the experienced Filipino, interim WBA titleholder Nonito Donaire (43-9, 28 KOs) after twelve tense rounds during a boxing night in Tokyo, Japan.

Donaire noticeably shook Tsutsumi with powerful right-hand punches in the fourth round, but Seiya managed to stand his ground and take several important rounds towards the end of the fight.
