William Scull isn't happy about losing to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in their recent IBF world super middleweight title fight in Saudi Arabia. The Cuban boxer claims he won the bout without taking a punch.
Scull, 33, lost to Canelo by unanimous decision. But he doesn't agree with the judges' verdict.
"It's sad, isn't it? To lose a fight without taking a punch. He never hit me in the face," Scull said.
The fight set a new record, but not in a good way. CompuBox stats show only 445 total punches were thrown. That's the lowest number ever recorded in a 12-round championship fight.
Scull believes his footwork and mobility won him the fight. He admits he could have done more in the final rounds.
"I felt like I won. I could have pressed more in the last two rounds, that's true, but thanks to my footwork he never hit me. I feel like I was the winner that night," Scull explained.
The Cuban boxer hopes to get back in the ring soon. He wants to prove he's still one of the best boxers out there.
While Scull waits for his next fight, Canelo is moving on to a big matchup. He'll face Terence Crawford on Saturday, September 13, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Scull thinks Canelo will win that fight. He predicts a knockout in the twelfth round.
"Canelo will knock him out in the twelfth round. There is a clear disadvantage because of the weight. If it didn't exist, it would be a 50-50 fight," Scull said.
Canelo will drop a couple of pounds for the fight, while Crawford moves up in weight.
Scull feels he was treated unfairly in his fight with Canelo. But the boxing world has already moved on to the next big event.
