Anthony Joshua has called out Tyson Fury, expressing his eagerness to face the 'Gypsy King' in the ring. The former two-time heavyweight champion didn't mince words when discussing his rival on social media.
The heavyweight division is currently in a state of flux. Fighters are making plans with or without Oleksandr Usyk in mind, as they wait to see the Ukrainian's next move.
Joseph Parker, the WBO mandatory challenger to Usyk, has decided to take on Fabio Wardley in late October. Parker made this choice after Usyk refused to commit to fighting him, despite being ordered to do so. If Parker beats Wardley, he might get a shot at Usyk, but it's not a sure thing.
Joshua took to Instagram to share his thoughts on these developments. He praised Parker for being proactive and not waiting around for Usyk. He also gave a nod to Wardley for stepping up to the challenge.
But Joshua saved his strongest words for Fury. In his Instagram story, he didn't hold back:
"That dippy mate Tyson Fury, I can't wait to get back in the ring and punch him up repeatedly. I'll avoid his flicker jab with ease."
Joshua clearly wants Fury as his next opponent. He's champing at the bit to get back in the ring "sooner than later" to face off against the 'Gypsy King'.
Fury, for his part, is technically 'retired'. He's waiting for the right opportunity to come along, whether that's a trilogy fight with Usyk or a bout with Joshua. If neither of those materialize, he might just stay on the sidelines.
The ball's now in Fury's court. Will he rise to Joshua's challenge? Or will he continue to wait for the perfect moment to make his return? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure - Joshua's ready and willing to throw down whenever Fury decides to step up.
