Jake Paul and Gervonta 'Tank' Davis are set to face off in the boxing ring on November 14 in Atlanta, Georgia. The match pairs YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul against professional boxer Davis in a bout that's got everyone talking.
Eddie Hearn, the president of Matchroom Boxing, has weighed in on the financial side of things. He thinks Davis could pocket a whopping $30 to $40 million for the fight. That's a lot more than he'd likely make from a professional boxing match.
Back in April, Hearn said:
"We know Gervonta will fight Jake Paul in November, and then we'll see what happens."
He was spot on about the date, which adds weight to his latest comments. Hearn explained his thinking on Davis' payday:
"I think this shows you where Gervonta is at. And by the way, Gervonta is probably earning, I don't know, $30, $40 million. So do you blame him for fighting Paul?"
Hearn compared this potential payday to what Davis might make in a pro bout:
"If you're in a room making a business decision and you can make $5, $6, $7 or $8 million for a rematch against Lamont Roach in a 50-50 fight, or you can make $30 million against Jake Paul, the choice is obvious"
One big question mark hangs over the weight class for the fight. Paul is bigger than Davis, so they'll need to figure out where they'll meet. This could decide if it's a pro fight or an exhibition.
The fight will likely draw a huge audience and rake in big bucks for both fighters. It's a major business opportunity that's hard to pass up.
Hearn, who represents Anthony Joshua, hinted that AJ might be next in line for Paul. But for now, all eyes are on the November showdown between Paul and Davis.
