Chavez Jr. showed up at the Coliseo Boxing Club, owned by fellow boxer Juan Francisco Estrada. He posted a video of himself working out on Instagram. The gym's a familiar place for the Chavez family - Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., the boxing legend and Chavez Jr.'s dad, has trained there too.
A judge let Chavez Jr. out of jail even though he's still tied up in a legal mess. He'll need to show up for his next court date on November 24, 2023.
Chavez Jr.'s troubles started on July 2, 2023. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nabbed him in California after he lost a fight to Jake Paul in Anaheim. They said he came into the US illegally and might have links to the 'Los Chapitos' part of the Sinaloa Cartel.
The case against Chavez Jr. looks pretty serious. The court's got 21 pieces of evidence, including some big ones:
• Wiretaps that seem to connect him to Nestor Isidro Perez Salas, known as El Nini • A DEA report that says Chavez Jr.'s under investigation • One of Chavez Jr.'s boxing robes found at a place linked to Perez Salas
If the court finds him guilty, Chavez Jr. could spend 4 to 8 years behind bars.
But for now, Chavez Jr.'s focus seems to be on getting back in fighting shape. He'll need to keep showing up to court while he waits for his trial. The boxing world will watch closely to see what happens next for the son of one of the sport's biggest legends.
