Ryan Garcia Reveals Shocking Prediction for Canelo-Crawford Showdown: "He's Too Strong"

Ronald Crawley Aug. 5, 2025, 6:11 p.m.

The super-middleweight championship bout between Canelo and Crawford is set for September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Crawford's move up in weight to challenge Canelo has gotten fans excited. If Crawford wins, he'll hold four belts in three divisions, potentially cementing his place among boxing's greats.

Garcia, who has trained with Canelo, expects a knockout similar to Canelo's 2016 win over Amir Khan. He said:

"I can see Crawford getting knocked out Amir Khan-style, though. I don't see [Crawford beating Canelo.] He could definitely prove me wrong, but I've trained with Canelo, I've been around him, bro can really push back heavyweights. This is the first time Canelo's bigger than somebody in a long time, so it's like the weights are lifted off and he can fight more freely."

Garcia's prediction stems from his firsthand experience with Canelo's strength, even against heavyweights. He also points out Canelo's size advantage, something the Mexican star hasn't enjoyed in recent fights.

The 2016 bout Garcia referenced saw Canelo stop Khan with a brutal sixth-round knockout. Khan hit the canvas hard and was out cold before landing. Canelo held back on celebrating, worried about Khan's condition.

That fight took place at a catchweight of 155lbs. Khan, who had his best performances at 140lbs, moved up from welterweight for the challenge. Crawford's situation is similar, with just one fight at 154lbs after years at 147lbs.

Despite his prediction, Garcia acknowledges Crawford's skill. He said, "I can't wait for the fight. I'm definitely gonna be backing Canelo. Crawford is a great fighter and he could surprise me, but where I would put my money is Canelo Alvarez."

The highly-anticipated clash between Canelo and Crawford has gotten boxing fans talking. With both fighters' impressive records and skills, it's shaping up to be a memorable night in Las Vegas.
