Daniel Dubois faced Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch, and the outcome has got people talking. Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom promoter, shared his thoughts on whether Dubois "quit again" in the fight.
Dubois has dealt with accusations of quitting since his 2020 fight with Joe Joyce. In that bout, he allowed himself to be counted out due to eye damage from Joyce's jabs. Some critics slammed Dubois for staying down, while others understood the seriousness of the injury and its potential impact on his career.
After the Joyce fight, Dubois bounced back. He knocked out Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic after tough moments in both fights. But his first encounter with Usyk ended in a quick stoppage.
In their recent rematch, Usyk stopped Dubois inside five rounds. Hearn shared his take on the fight in an interview with The Stomping Ground:
"It was a big shot. Seeing the first fight, it was a jab. He got hit by a stiff jab, he went down, he let the referee count to 10 in front of him. I think quitting is a very harsh word. He quit in the first fight. Give him the benefit of the doubt in the second fight, he chose not to get up. People will say that's quitting. It wasn't a stiff jab, it was a huge left hand. But the fact is he could have got up."
Hearn points out the difference between the two fights. In the first, Dubois went down from a jab and didn't get up. In the rematch, a powerful left hand floored him. While Hearn suggests giving Dubois the benefit of the doubt this time, he admits that Dubois could have gotten up.
Despite this setback, Dubois has vowed to return to the ring. Many believe he still has the skills to become a world champion again. The boxing world will be watching to see how Dubois bounces back from this latest challenge.
