Derek Chisora changed his mind about Daniel Dubois's chances against Joseph Parker. The heavyweight contender now thinks Dubois can't beat Parker, even though he once predicted a stoppage win for 'DDD'.
Chisora's opinion shifted after Dubois lost to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time. The Ukrainian champion stopped Dubois inside five rounds in their rematch last weekend. This loss came after their first fight in Poland last August, where Usyk won in nine rounds.
Before these setbacks, Dubois had a solid run. He even stopped Anthony Joshua last September, which was a big win for him.
In an interview with Seconds Out, Chisora shared his thoughts on Dubois's future:
"He will be a two-time world champion, don't worry about that. I'm not bothered about that. He will win a world title again."
But when it came to a potential fight with Joseph Parker, Chisora was less optimistic:
"Listen, can he beat Joseph Parker? No."
Dubois and Parker were supposed to fight in February, but Dubois pulled out because he was sick. At that time, Chisora thought Dubois would stop Parker.
Parker's been on a roll lately. He knocked out Martin Bakole in two rounds when he stepped in for Dubois. He also beat former world champion Deontay Wilder and big Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang on points.
Now, Parker is the WBO mandatory challenger. The WBO has ordered him to fight Usyk next, but Usyk might give up the belt.
Chisora still believes in Dubois's future, saying he'll be a world champion again. But for now, he thinks Parker is out of Dubois's league.
