Roy Jones Jr, the legendary boxer from Pensacola, Florida, has given a big thumbs up to some of today's boxing stars. He's particularly impressed with Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, saying that people don't really get how good the 28-year-old fighter is.
Jones, now 56, knows a thing or two about boxing. He won world titles in four different weight classes and was a big deal in the 1990s. He beat some tough guys like James Toney, Mike McCallum, and Bernard Hopkins. But his most impressive feat? In 2003, he moved up to heavyweight and beat John Ruiz for the WBA world title at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
These days, Jones works as a boxing commentator. He recently spoke on the "Ring Champs with Ak & Barak" show about the fighters he likes to watch now.
"Boots got game, people don't understand Boots got game,"Jones said about Ennis.
Ennis, from Philadelphia, is undefeated with 34 wins and 30 knockouts. He's a switch-hitter, which means he can box from both stances. Earlier this year, he became the unified WBA and IBF welterweight champion by beating Eimantas Stanionis. Now, he's thinking about moving up to light-middleweight and wants to fight WBC interim world champion Vergil Ortiz Jr.
Jones also had good things to say about other fighters.
"One of my favourites to watch now. I love Terence Crawford,"he said. He also added,
"Inoue can fight."
When asked about a potential fight between Crawford and Ennis, Jones didn't want to make a prediction. He said he knows both guys personally and didn't want to pick sides.
Some fans think Ennis needs to beat more big names to become a huge star. But for now, he's got a legend like Roy Jones Jr singing his praises.
