Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez might stay with his current promoter for the rest of his career. Turki Al Sheikh, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Entertainment, wants to sign the boxing superstar to a lifetime contract.
Al Sheikh made this clear as Canelo celebrated his 35th birthday and second undisputed championship at 168 pounds. The Mexican fighter still has a couple of fights left on his current deal, which runs until 2026.
"We are negotiating with Canelo to renew his contract, maybe we can have him with us forever, until he retires," Al Sheikh said.
Right now, Canelo's focus is on his upcoming fight with Terence 'Bud' Crawford. The two will face off on September 13 in Las Vegas. Crawford, with a perfect 41-0 record, isn't stealing the spotlight. Canelo remains the clear favorite.
Al Sheikh sees the fight as a toss-up. "We'll see what happens that day, we don't know. This fight, in my opinion, is 50-50. We have one of the biggest fights in boxing in the last 10 years."
Looking beyond September, Al Sheikh has plans for Canelo's future opponents.
"In my plan (as possible rivals) are Hamzah (Sheeraz), Christian Mbilli and maybe someday, David Benavidez. There would also be Dmitry Bivol. There are many fights for Canelo, but first we have to see what will happen in September."
Hamzah Sheeraz, a British fighter with a 22-0-1 record, stands out as a potential next opponent for Canelo.
The lifetime contract, if signed, will shape Canelo's career management and fight scheduling for years to come. With a record of 63-2-2 and undisputed champion status at 168 pounds, Canelo's decisions will impact the entire boxing landscape.
