Jaime Munguia's boxing career hit a snag when he tested positive for a banned substance after his May 4 victory over Bruno Surace. The Mexican boxer's test revealed exogenous testosterone metabolites, casting a shadow over his recent win.

Munguia's case is still under investigation, but the consequences could be severe. There's a good chance his victory will be overturned, and he might face a suspension ranging from six months to a year. The final verdict is expected in the coming weeks.

This isn't the first time Munguia's camp has dealt with doping issues. His current trainer, Eddy Reynoso, also coaches Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, who faced similar problems in 2018. Canelo tested positive for traces of clenbuterol before his rematch with Gennady Golovkin.

When asked about Munguia's situation, Canelo said:

"I totally agree with Jaime, but only he knows what happened. Eddy [Reynoso] doesn't feed him."

The situation has prompted Reynoso to rethink his approach. He told ESPN Knockout:

"I will work with a team that I can supervise 100%. I have allowed boxers who come to me for training to have their own nutrition and work team, regardless of what my training entails. So what will I do from now on?"

Reynoso plans to take full control of team supervision, focusing on diet and medical activities. He wants to work with nutrition experts linked to VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) and get closer to the organization to improve his practices.

The trainer aims to make sure his fighters aren't exposed to contaminated food or substances that could lead to positive tests. This move shows how seriously Reynoso is taking the issue, especially given the history of positive tests among his pupils.

Doping remains a big problem in boxing, with several high-profile cases popping up over the years. Munguia's case serves as another reminder of the ongoing challenges the sport faces in maintaining a clean and fair competition environment.

As the boxing world waits for the final verdict on Munguia's case, it's clear that this incident will have far-reaching effects on how trainers and fighters approach nutrition and supplementation in the future.
