Carl Froch might want to think twice about stepping back into the ring with Jake Paul. That's the advice from George Groves, Froch's former rival who knows a thing or two about facing "The Cobra" in the squared circle.
Groves and Froch shared a heated rivalry that culminated in two memorable fights. Their first bout in 2013 saw Groves drop Froch early before a controversial stoppage in the ninth round. The rematch at Wembley Stadium in 2014 ended with Froch knocking out Groves in the eighth round, marking Froch's last professional fight.
Now, Froch, a three-time world champion, has been considering a comeback to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. The two have been engaged in a war of words, with Froch seemingly eager to lace up the gloves once more.
But Groves thinks that's a bad idea. In a recent interview with JOE, Groves didn't mince words about how he sees a potential Froch-Paul matchup playing out.
"Jake Paul beats him every day of the week, stops him. Froch is old, finished. His bag work was horrendous and slow."
Groves speculated that Froch might be trying to lure Paul in with mediocre work, but he's not convinced it's a smart strategy. While Froch has the presence, status, and Hall of Fame credentials, Groves believes Paul has too many advantages.
"Paul is too fast, too big, too nippy, and skilled at mind games. I hope Froch wins for us ex-pros but I don't think he will, I think Paul beats him."
Groves pointed out that Paul's mind games could be a significant factor. He thinks Paul will get in Froch's head, "drive him f**king nuts" and "ruin him" mentally before they even step into the ring.
Despite his pessimistic outlook, Groves admits he'll be rooting for his old rival if the fight does happen.
"I hope it doesn't happen, I don't think Froch needs it, but if it does happen I'll be supporting him."
As Jake Paul continues his quest for a shot at a world cruiserweight title, the boxing world waits to see if Froch will heed Groves' warning or if the lure of one more big fight will prove too strong to resist.
