Roy Jones Jr. has fired another shot in his ongoing feud with Floyd Mayweather. The boxing legend claims he's already beaten a better fighter than Floyd - James Toney.
Jones and Mayweather have been going at it for weeks now. Their rivalry has gotten so heated that Jones even challenged Mayweather to a fight.
In a recent interview with Plejmo, Jones didn't hold back. He said Toney was "a better version of the Mayweather story" and gave several reasons why:
"I've already solved the Mayweather puzzle. James Toney was a better version of the Mayweather story because Toney was knocking people out. Toney was not ducking nobody, fighting everybody, not ducking and dodging nothing, and I solved it so. And he was better than Floyd at the shoulder roll."
Jones pointed out that Toney was knocking out almost everyone he faced, unlike Mayweather. He also praised Toney's willingness to fight anyone and his superior shoulder roll technique.
"He was knocking people out behind it, pretty much everybody he faced out, so what I gotta do again? I've already solved it. You want me to do it again and show y'all again. I'll show y'all again how to do it. It's not a mystery [how to beat Floyd]. I've been and done it and James is far better than he is. James did everything better."
Jones' confidence comes from his decisive victory over Toney back in November 1994. At the time, Jones was 26-0 and moving up from middleweight. Toney, the reigning IBF super-middleweight champion, boasted an impressive 44-0-2 record.
Many thought the fight would be close, but Jones dominated. He won by unanimous decision with scores of 119-108, 118-109, and 117-110, becoming a two-weight world champion in the process.
This win over Toney, who Jones considers superior to Mayweather, fuels his belief that he could handle Floyd if they ever met in the ring. As this feud continues, we'll have to wait and see if Mayweather responds to Jones' latest claims.
