Edgar Berlanga's anger towards Oscar De La Hoya has reached new heights. The boxer's recent outburst shows he's even more upset with the promoter than Canelo Alvarez, who's known for his dislike of De La Hoya.
At an open workout before his fight with Hamzah Sheeraz, Berlanga didn't hold back when asked about his problem with De La Hoya. He used strong language and made threats, showing just how angry he is.
"F**k Oscar De La Hoya. F**k you. I'ma see you tomorrow. We're gonna smack the s**t out of you tomorrow," Berlanga said, repeating, "F**k Oscar... F**k Oscar."
This bad blood started last August when De La Hoya, known as the "Golden Boy," made some harsh comments about Berlanga. He questioned Berlanga's Puerto Rican identity and said he wasn't good enough to fight Canelo Alvarez.
Berlanga fired back then, saying he'd "beat him up" if they met. He also claimed De La Hoya was trying to mess up his chances of fighting Canelo because Berlanga wouldn't sign with Golden Boy Promotions.
In the end, Berlanga signed with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom instead of De La Hoya's company.
Being a boxing promoter often leads to fights outside the ring, and De La Hoya seems to get into more than his fair share. He's had problems with his own fighter, Ryan Garcia, and his ongoing feud with Canelo Alvarez is well-known for its personal attacks.
But now, it looks like Berlanga's hatred for De La Hoya might even be stronger than Canelo's. This latest outburst shows just how deep the bad feelings run between the boxer and the promoter.
