Jake Paul's quest for a world title shot is picking up steam. The YouTuber-turned-boxer got a big win over former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the end of June in Anaheim, California.
That victory pushed Paul into the WBA's top 15 rankings, though the decision might be reversed due to some controversy. Still, 'The Problem Child' and his team are looking ahead to bigger challenges.
Paul's manager, Nakisa Bidarian, shared some exciting news about their future plans. In an interview with The Ariel Helwani Show, Bidarian revealed they're eyeing a fight in November or December of 2025.
The target? None other than Badou Jack, the current WBC cruiserweight champion. Jack's got quite the resume as a three-weight world champion, having held titles at super-middleweight, light heavyweight, and now cruiserweight.
Jack's last fight was in May when he defended his WBC title against Noel Mikaelian. The champ won by majority decision, but many fans and experts thought Mikaelian should've gotten the nod. Because of the controversy, the WBC has ordered a rematch between Jack and Mikaelian.
This mandatory rematch could throw a wrench in Paul's plans. If the fight with Jack doesn't pan out, there are other options on the table. Paul might consider a rematch with former foe Tommy Fury or even aim for a bout with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis.
"We're looking at late 2025 or beyond for Jake's world title shot," Bidarian said. "Badou Jack is our top choice, but we've got backup plans if that doesn't work out."
Paul's journey from social media star to professional boxer has been nothing short of remarkable. With each fight, he's steadily improving and silencing his critics. Whether he'll be ready for a world title shot by late 2025 remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure – Jake Paul is determined to make his mark in the boxing world.
