Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are set to face off again in a heavyweight championship rematch. The fight will take place on July 19th at Wembley Stadium in London, with all the heavyweight belts on the line.
The two fighters first met in August 2023, when Usyk won by stopping Dubois in the 9th round. That fight wasn't without controversy, though. Dubois landed a body shot in the 5th round that the referee ruled as a low blow, a decision that's still debated today.
Since then, both fighters have had big wins. Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion by beating Tyson Fury in May 2024. He later gave up the IBF belt to honor a rematch with Fury. Dubois grabbed that vacant IBF title with a knockout win over Anthony Joshua last September.
John Fury, father of heavyweight star Tyson Fury, shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight with Pro Boxing Fans. He thinks Dubois has a real shot at winning:
"That's mission impossible I think for him [Usyk] at 38, dodgy. I do [think Dubois can win]. He's young enough, strong enough and he's got the power, but Usyk is a master technician."
Fury pointed out that Usyk's age could be a factor, calling it "mission impossible" for the 38-year-old champion. He praised Usyk's skills, calling him a "master technician and class act". But he also noted that Dubois' youth, strength, and power could make the difference.
The fight could go a few ways, according to Fury. Usyk might pick Dubois apart if he stays on the back foot. On the other hand, Dubois could get frustrated with Usyk's tactics and "blow a fuse".
Former world champion Amir Khan also weighed in, saying it could be an "easy night" for one of the fighters. He didn't say which one, though, leaving fans to guess.
Usyk brings his technical skills and smart fighting style to the ring. Dubois counters with youth and raw power. The rematch will show if Dubois has learned from their first fight and if Usyk can keep his titles against a hungry young challenger.
The heavyweight division will be watching closely on July 19th. The winner of this fight will stand alone at the top of boxing's biggest weight class.
