Tyson Fury has made up his mind about his boxing career. The former heavyweight champion says he's staying retired and won't return to the ring.
Fury hung up his gloves in January 2024 after losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk. Those defeats crushed hopes for a big British showdown with Anthony Joshua that fans had wanted for years.
Recently, rumors started flying that Fury might come back. But the "Gypsy King" shut that down fast with a social media post.
"I hear a lot of talk of the Gypsy King returning to boxing, and I ask the question of this one. For what? What would I return for? More boxing belts? Won 22 of them."
Fury made it clear he's happy with what he's done in boxing. He's traveled the world and accomplished a lot. Now he's enjoying retirement and doesn't feel the need to prove anything else.
"I've been rumped. That's it, fair play to them. They've had their use of me, but I'm happy. I'm happy, contented with what I've done, what I've achieved, what I've accomplished, been around the world and back again, and here we are."
The boxer emphasized he's in no hurry to get back in the ring and take punches. He wrapped up his statement with a firm declaration:
"This is what retirement looks like for the Gypsy King. Not too shabby. I'm in no rush at all to come back boxing, and get my face punched in for what? What would I return for? I asked that question. So here we are. I'm retired and I'm staying retired. I've got nothing to prove to anybody and nothing to return for."
Fury has a history of retiring and then coming back. But this time, he sounds pretty convinced it's for good. Still, some boxing fans might hold out hope he'll change his mind again.
For now, though, Fury seems content to leave the heavyweight division to others like Usyk and Joshua while he enjoys life outside the ropes.
