Lennox Lewis thinks Daniel Dubois can beat Oleksandr Usyk. The former undisputed heavyweight champion believes Dubois has what it takes to hand Usyk his first loss.
Usyk remains undefeated in his professional career. He's racked up 23 wins, including victories over Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua twice, and Tyson Fury twice in 2024. The Ukrainian star started as an Olympic Gold Medalist in 2012, became the undisputed cruiserweight champion, and now holds all the belts at heavyweight.
Dubois and Usyk will face off again on July 19 at Wembley Stadium. Their first fight in August 2023 saw Dubois knock Usyk down, but it was ruled a low blow. Now, Lewis sees this as a key factor in the rematch.
Lewis shared his thoughts on why he thinks Dubois can win:
"I'm thinking he's ready. He's been through the trials and tribulations. He's the king slayer. He's got the power. He's been there before. He was just there, he knocked [Usyk] down, so he knows what he needs to do. It would be great for him to do it, another man from Great Britain."
The last undisputed heavyweight champion believes Dubois has gained valuable experience. He points out that 'DDD' has the power and knows what it takes after their first encounter.
Lewis added:
"It's not an easy task, but he's definitely the man that can go through with it. He's done the work. He's gone through the pedigree. He's a certified world champion and I think he has big hopes on doing it. He's going to do it."
Usyk aims to become the first two-time undisputed heavyweight champion. But he might face a tough challenge after the Dubois fight. Joseph Parker waits in the wings as the mandatory challenger for Usyk's WBO belt. If Usyk doesn't defend against Parker, he could lose his undisputed status.
The boxing world will watch closely as Usyk and Dubois step into the ring on July 19. Will Dubois prove Lewis right and become the first man to defeat Usyk? Or will the Ukrainian champion continue his dominant run? We'll find out soon enough.
