Conor Benn looks back on his big fight with Chris Eubank Jr, sharing thoughts on his rival's power and his own performance in the ring.
The two fighters finally faced off in April 2023 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a long wait. Their original bout got called off when Benn tested positive for a banned substance. He later got cleared to fight on home soil late last year.
The match-up had its challenges. Benn moved up two weight classes, while Eubank had to deal with a 10lbs rehydration clause on the morning of the fight. Many people thought Benn would struggle with the bigger man's punching power.
The fight turned into a 12-round war with both men having their moments. In the later rounds, Eubank's size advantage showed as he took control.
Benn talked about feeling Eubank's power during the fight:
"He hit me maybe in, I think it was round nine or 10, he hit me with a shot, he caught me with a good shot, it was a good shot, one head shot."
But Benn claims he gave as good as he got:
"Three, four times I could see where he stumbled in and done what he had to do."
Benn admitted Eubank used his weight well but criticized himself too: "I made mistakes in there letting him push me back to the ropes."
Despite losing by unanimous decision, Benn wants another go at Eubank. If that doesn't happen, he'll look for a welterweight world title shot against someone like Mario's Barrios. Eubank has said he's up for a rematch too.
But not everyone agrees. Eubank's dad and others in boxing say there's no need for a second fight because of the weight difference between them.
