Carl Froch has cast doubt on Anthony Joshua's chances in a potential rematch with Daniel Dubois. The former super-middleweight champion shared his thoughts in a recent interview, suggesting Joshua might struggle to overcome Dubois if they meet again in the ring.
Dubois defeated Joshua in September, defending his IBF belt in a fight that saw Joshua hit the canvas in the first round. The bout ended with Dubois stopping Joshua inside five rounds, a result that surprised many given Joshua's recent form. Before this loss, Joshua had racked up three solid knockout wins as he rebuilt his career following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
Froch shared his candid opinion on the Sporting Talk YouTube channel, addressing Joshua's limited options moving forward.
[Eddie Hearn] needs a miracle if he wants 'AJ' to come back, cause 'AJ' can't fight anybody except a finished, past his best Tyson Fury if he comes out of retirement.
Froch didn't mince words when discussing the possibility of a Joshua-Dubois rematch:
It's the only fight that makes any sense for 'AJ.' If he fights Dubois, he's gonna get ironed out again, bombed out, he's gonna get splattered. Don't forget how bad that first fight was, he already had no confidence.
While Joshua grapples with his next move, Dubois is gearing up for a shot at undisputed glory. He'll face Usyk on July 19, looking to overcome the knockout loss he suffered in their first encounter last August.
Joshua, meanwhile, is set for elbow surgery. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has been appealing to Tyson Fury to come out of retirement for a final showdown with Joshua. Fury, who's been retired since January after losing his second consecutive fight to Usyk, remains a wild card in the heavyweight division's future.
The heavyweight landscape continues to shift, and only time will tell if Joshua can regain his former glory or if Froch's pessimistic prediction will come true.
