Both fighters have their hands full with upcoming bouts. Davis will face Lamont Roach Jr. on August 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It's a rematch following their controversial draw in March. Stevenson, meanwhile, is set to take on William Zepeda on July 12 in New York.
Stevenson isn't shy about his ambitions. He told reporters:
"Right now, I'm only thinking about July 12. Of course, I want to fight 'Tank.' I've been saying it for years. But the truth is, if I don't beat Zepeda, there won't be a fight against Davis. Zepeda is first, and I'm going to give it my all."
The plot thickens with rumors of a potential bout between Davis and content creator turned boxer Jake Paul. Stevenson didn't mince words about this possibility:
"It would be disrespectful to the sport if Tank accepts that fight instead of me. I'm the best fighter, and I can prove it."
Paul himself claimed everything was set for a fight with Davis this summer, but those plans got put on hold after Davis's draw with Roach Jr. At a press conference for his upcoming fight against Julio César Chávez Jr., Paul stated:
"We're working behind the scenes to make it happen. Obviously, the fans will win this fight, and it would be one of the biggest events of the year. It would be an exhibition fight."
As things stand, Davis seems content to focus on his rematch with Roach Jr., while Stevenson prepares for Zepeda. The boxing world waits to see if these two talented fighters will eventually meet in the ring, or if other matchups will take precedence.
