Jake Paul might soon get a shot at a world title in boxing. The YouTuber-turned-boxer is in talks to fight WBC cruiserweight champion Badou Jack after his upcoming bout with Julio Cesar Chavez on June 28.
Paul, known as 'The Problem Child', has become one of boxing's biggest names since he started his pro career in January 2020. He kicked off by mainly taking on former MMA fighters and has steadily increased the caliber of his opponents.
His most notable win came last November when he defeated Mike Tyson by unanimous decision after eight rounds. The bout against the 58-year-old boxing legend stirred up plenty of controversy in the boxing world.
Now, Paul's got his sights set on a world title. In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, he confirmed his interest in facing Jack:
"I'm super interested. I had Nakisa [Bidarian] contact his team behind the scenes, so those discussions are happening."
When asked if he thought he could beat Jack, Paul responded confidently: "For sure."
Jack, a former super-middleweight and light heavyweight world champion, recently defended his WBC cruiserweight title against Noel Mikaelian by majority decision earlier this month.
Before Paul can focus on a potential title fight, he'll need to get past former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez in California on June 28.
There's also been talk of Paul facing Gervonta Davis later this year, though previous negotiations didn't pan out. A bout with Canelo Alvarez was also discussed in the past but didn't materialize.
Paul's rapid rise in boxing has been nothing short of remarkable. Whether fans love him or hate him, he's proven he's serious about the sport and is now on the verge of a world title shot just four years after his pro debut.
