Saunders suffered a serious eye injury during the eighth round of his fight with Alvarez at AT&T; Stadium. The damage forced him to stop fighting, ending his undefeated record and his reign as WBO super-middleweight champion.

Before facing Alvarez, Saunders had an impressive career. He held world titles in two weight classes, winning the WBO middleweight and super-middleweight belts.

Now, at 35 years old, Saunders aims to make a comeback before the end of 2025. He plans to compete in the light-heavyweight division, potentially aiming to become a three-weight world champion. Frank Warren will promote his return.

Saunders told The Ring Magazine that he never considered himself retired:

"Never once did it go through my head that I was actually retired. It all just took a long time to get my head around because I had built up so much to that fight. When I was in there I was thinking 'Is this it?'"

The boxer explained his reasons for returning:

"There's a lot of questions, a lot of demons inside me I need to get out. There's only one way to get them out and to answer the questions and that is by getting back in the ring. Let's see what I've got left there."

Rumors suggest a possible rematch with Chris Eubank Jr, but nothing has been confirmed. As Saunders prepares for his comeback, fans will watch closely to see if he can recapture his previous form after nearly four years away from the sport.
