Legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum thinks Rolando Romero will beat Devin Haney if they fight. Arum shared his view after watching both fighters compete on the same card in New York City on May 2.
Romero, known as 'Rolly', pulled off a surprise win against Ryan Garcia. He grabbed the vacant WBA Regular Welterweight Title in Times Square. On the same night, Haney won against Jose Ramirez, but his fight didn't impress many people.
Arum told Fight Hub TV what he thinks about a possible Haney-Romero match:
"Well it's an interesting fight, if Devin fights Rolly the way he fought Ramirez [then] he doesn't win so again, I've seen Haney in a lot of fights and I've never saw him fight this way so based on fighting the way he did tonight, against what Rolly showed fighting Garcia tonight, I would pick Rolly. But again I don't think you're gonna see Haney so bad as he looked tonight."
Haney, a two-weight world champion at just 26, got a lot of criticism for his fight with Ramirez. Many fans felt he didn't want to engage enough during the twelve rounds.
Romero's unexpected win over Garcia might have messed up plans for a Haney-Garcia rematch. The boxing world will have to wait and see what happens next for these fighters.
